GATE Vocational FAB School

FAB’s directive has always been to teach in the most creative and effective way possible and all of our practical models are implemented accordingly. All of our various vocational courses are thought-out with the demands of the market in mind to ensure that our course remains relevant and intuitive.

The learning hotel model works much in the same way as a learning hospital. The hotel bedrooms, kitchen, dining area/bar area provide the essentials needed to aptly simulate the environment our students will be working in. We often host events here that allow the students to demonstrate the same skills that they are able to practice here on a daily basis. In short, it is an essential aspect of FAB that gives our students practical experience before they have even had their first job in the hospitality industry.

We want to give our students the tools they need to succeed throughout their whole career rather than only making sure they get a job after graduating. This is why we give students classes in entrepreneurship. These classes provide students with the integral knowledge needed if they ever want to run their own business.

Because FAB believes that innovation is the key to success, we are always keen to hear ideas from others. We often invite students from other colleges or institutions based all over Nepal to share any suggestions or ideas with us. The hope is that it will be a mutually beneficial experience where both parties return home having learned something new.

Currently offered courses at FAB are housekeeping, food and beverage service, and culinary arts. Recently we have added bakery and front office courses. Our next major development is the upcoming courses; laundry, spa, horticulture, floriculture, and agriculture. We will be transforming FAB to suit the next level of vocational education where under the roof of one college you can find multi-skilled-based training.

We have a community-building session that helps to support the people living in the local area. They can come in and receive some basic training in skills such as mushroom farming, cheese making, beekeeping, and reusable sanity pad production. This will give them helpful skills and increase their levels of production. We also often buy anything they produce to be used by our FAB students which is useful to us and also helps the local families support themselves. The main aim of this project is to uplift the local people, who in many cases are living in slum conditions, and give them a reliable skill that provides them with a livelihood.

We have a computer lab where students learn digital skills on applications such as Lobster Ink, Tipsy, and a new one which we are developing called Rainbow. Being computer literate makes students more competent on an international platform. It also helps students get in touch with the school when they are working in jobs or internships which means they can report back to the school regularly. When they are competent with computers it also makes reporting any issues that they have to us quick and easy and therefore safeguards them in the future.

We also have international expert services like Swiss Contact from Switzerland and Senior Experten Service from Germany. Certain experts in designated fields come to Nepal to give experience-based training to our teachers and students. This gives our students and teachers support and knowledge from well-equipped companies and resources from developed countries. These senior experts are retirees who have worked in service their entire lives and have been appointed to share their expertise with institutions such as ourselves.

We have three different schools around the world with which we have a student exchange program. The knowledge and experience gained by respective students in their representative field will come to FAB school and share those experiences with our students. Currently, we are partnering with a Chinese international school in Hong Kong. The secondary level students come during their vacation to Nepal and they engage in culinary programs such as the MasterChef competition.

As a part of their studies in hospitality training, ESSEC business school in France and Hotel Fachschule Thun in Switzerland sends a group of students who have either nearly graduated or just graduated. They come as volunteers to help the FAB school students. This allows for a unique learning experience on both sides. For the international students, it will fall under the guidelines of their CSR task and the FAB school students will gain international experience in their particular learning area.
